Minelab Go-Find 40 Metal Detector Product Review

One of the top metal detector manufacturing company is “Minelab”. Thus, metal hunter enthusiasts are surely very familiar of this brand.

Minelab has actually gained their trust and popularity by producing efficient tools for metal hunters for many years (the company was founded back in 1985).

On this post, let’s discuss a product review of one of Minelab’s cheap metal detector called “Minelab Go-Find 40 Metal Detector”.

It is actually very cheap or somewhat at a very affordable price where I bought mine recently at the Amazon Store.

I actually read some testimonials that this tool claims to work well for hunting relic and coin shooting purposes. And since it is cheap, why not buy one for myself and give it an actual tests.

Before I share my experience and test results, let’s first cover its amazing product features.

Product Features of Minelab Go-Find 40 Metal Detector

3 Discriminator Tones

One of the best feature about this metal detector that I really like is its three discriminator tones. These three tones can be easily distinguished through the level of their sounds which are “low, mid and high”

Assuming that a certain object has been detected and the equipment is generating a low tone, it means that on that particular spot has high iron contents.

If the tone is at mid-level then it means that there is an identified metallic object but a type of metal with low value.

The highest tone is what you really need to pay attention because it is a signal indicating that you just found high quality metals such as gold.

Visual Target Identification

Along with the audio discrimination feature is also a “Visual Target Identification” feature. It is actually a second confirmation feature of the tool which gives an enhanced and more accurate detection result.

The main unit has a cool “back light and a large LCD” all for the purpose of giving you a better and much clearer visual display of the signals from the screen.

To explain how this feature works in the most basic sense, there are LED’s acting as signal indicators. If it happens that the metal detector runs over a non-ferrous metals (such as gold and silver), the green LED’s with give a signal.

On the other hand, low value metals such as iron will trigger the red LED’s.

Impressive Automatic Ground Balance

All those discrimination feature will be rendered useless if a metal detector does not have a good ground balance settings.

The main purpose of a ground balance is to “ignore ground interferences” particularly presence of high minerals and alkaline type of soils.

This will lead into a much deeper penetration of the equipment resulting into more interesting finds.

Along with the ground balance is a “three level depth indication function”. This is a special feature of Minelab Go-Find 40 that gives you an estimate depth of the target object.

Being aware about how deep is your target allows you to know when to stop digging. This actually gets rid of the hassle trying to re-scan the spot if the object is still there or it already got scooped out by your shovel.

10 inches Search Coil

Some says that a 10 inches search coil is a large size but for me, I consider it as a medium size only. I actually held bigger loops of search coils that are three times larger than this one.

So what is special about Minelab Go-Find 40’s search coil?

What makes it special is that it is a “submersible mono loop antenna”. This means that it can be used on both wet and dry areas.

Smartphone App

If you have a smartphone with Bluetooth functionality then you can connect it to Go-Find 40 and utilize its useful apps.

There are currently several interesting apps that could really offer some good benefits such as the app that allows you to record the locations of your finds.

If you are a complete beginner the Coin ID will also be a great help. You can even listen into your favorite music while detecting but I really do not recommend it.

You can also post your finds on FaceBook and share it with your friends while on the field.

It’s Lightweight

If you are a women or simply a weakling type of guy then Go-Find 40 will be a perfect equipment for you because it “only weigh 2.31lbs”

As an average person who does not even regularly work out, I can hold this thing for an entire day. Thus, even smalls kids are able to use it.

Foldable Design

Go-Find 40 is the first “foldable metal detector” that I own. Making it foldable is actually a very ingenious design from the manufacturer which makes storage and transportation a hassle free.

The folding and unfolding process is really very quick which takes only a few seconds of your time.

User-friendly is another word that best describe Go-Find 40. Setting it up does not require screwing or attaching some of its parts which takes some of your precious time.

You just literally just unfold it, insert its batteries then turn the Power ON and you are good to go. When you are done for the day, simply fold it back for safe storage.

Conclusion

My own overall conclusion as a product review for Minelab Go-Find 40 is that “it is very user-friendly” making it one of my best recommended cheap metal detector for complete beginners or for the whole family to enjoy.

A 10 years old kid or an old grandpa can actually handle it without any problem and surely, they will likely enjoy their time playing or metal detecting with it.

Based on the actual performance of my field test results, this equipment provides a very accurate detection for small size objects particularly coins.

The maximum depth that it can detect such particular size of a metallic object is 12 inches.

Lastly, with its current market price, you surely won’t make any regrets purchasing one for yourself.

Garrett Pro Pointer Pinpointer Detector Review

One of the most popular pinpointer device is the "Garrett Pro Pointer" metal detector. Many metal detector hobbyist prefer this tool due to its small size and 100% waterproof.

I actually own a Garrett Pro Pointer and it really helped me a lot on my searches particularly in pinpointing small buried objects that my metal detector can hardly point the exact location.

The most interesting feature that I like most about Garrett Pro Pointer is its simplicity which is perfect for complete beginners.

It's microprocessor already does the process of automatically adjusting its circuitry settings which ensures maximum sensitivity.

This means, you don't have to go through the trouble of adjustments and fine tuning which is simply a waste of your valuable time.

Another feature of the Garrett Pro Pointer that I like is its pinpointing tip and side-scanning capability. I usually perform side-scanning first.

Once the object is confirmed, I use the pinpointing tip to accurately determine the spot.

If it happens that a certain object has been picked up, the Garrett Pro Pointer will alert the operator in two ways. It produces an audible sound and vibrating alarms at the same time.

The advantage is that, you can use this tool without removing your headphones.

Other features of Garrett Pro Pointer includes an LED flashlight which allows you to detect on dim locations.

There's also a sifting blade which you can use to scrape away soil when recovering a certain detected item. And, a woven belt holster for easy portability.

According to the manufacturer, this tool is also capable of detecting metal pipes or nails on the walls.

Pros and Cons of the Garrett Pro Pointer

When it comes to the pros and cons of the Garrett Pro Pointer, the pros actually outweighs the cons. In fact, there aren't any cons that I can say about this product.

I've already been using it for several months now and I still observe no flaws.

Pros

Garrett Pro Pointer really does everything that is mentioned on the product description. So if you ask me, it is one of the best metal detecting pinpointer tool available on the market today.

Aside from the useful features of the tool, I can say that the manufacturer have used high quality materials which makes it highly durable.

It doesn't easily break regardless of how rough the way you handle it even without care.

It is also 100 percent water resistant. This tool really came handy when me and my crew had an underwater project.

The item we were looking at that time was an old barrel of drum that got covered with thick mud making it hard for us to find without the help of a detector.

We could use a bigger hand-held metal detector but it would really be a hassle. So we're glad that we have the Garrett Pro Pointer which allowed us to find the covered item with ease.

Cons

As I stated above, there aren't any cons of this pinpointer that I can say about. The only reason why some people says that it's a bad product is due to its expensive price.

Garrett Pro Pointer actually costs almost comparable to the price of a large hand-held cheap metal detector.

Overall, Garrett Pro Pointer is one small device that proves a worthy useful tool to every treasure hunter around.

Thus, you will most likely won't regret buying one even at the cost of its expensive price. When I first purchased my tool, I simply treated it as a form of investment.

Fisher F2 Metal Detector Review

The "Fisher F2" Metal Detector is a recommended tool for beginners.

It is actually perfect for coin-shooters and relic hunters because this MD is capable of detecting metal scraps, gold, silver and all other sorts of metals with good accuracy.

Fisher F2 is one of my favorite metal detector in my arsenal. Through my experience with it, I was able to find some of my precious collections of old coins.

Control Box

The control box of the Fisher F2 metal detector consists of an LCD screen and some few buttons. Through the LCD screen, you can make all the necessary adjustments such as the discrimination feature.

To discriminate out different categories, press the "plus sign" button. The "notch" button on the right works the same where it filter out certain items as well.

On the left side of the LCD screen is the sensitivity setting. Adjusting to its proper setting can increase depth penetration and stability. It also becomes a lot more accurate minimizing false signals.

The most interesting feature that I like most about Fisher F2 is its capability to determine the depth of the buried item.

Assuming that you swept the search coil of the detector on the surface of the ground and it found something under, it will cause a sound alert. On the LCD screen, there's also a number. Just on the right of it is the depth indicator.

Another interesting feature of the Fisher F2 that amazes me is its pin-pointing capability.

There's a pin-point button the you press-and-hold allowing the equipment to locate the exact spot of the buried item. This procedure does not require the search coil from moving.

Batteries

The required battery for the Fisher F2 metal detector to work are two pieces of 9 volts batteries. I strongly recommend that you should buy rechargeable batteries.

You may also want to buy additional batteries as spares in case that you will be spending a lot of hours hunting out in the field.

Search Coil

The size of Fisher F2's search coil consists of 8 inches in diameter. In my own opinion, I think that this is just the right size that allows you to swing it at a normal pace.

Water Proof

Fisher F2 MD isn't just applicable for use on dry lands. The manufacturers have designed and made use of materials that allows this metal detector to be used underwater or alongside the beach.

In short, its waterproof.

Pros

- The discrimination feature of Fisher F2 is quite amazing. It is indeed quite good at separating trash from the real treasure that I seek.

- The first time that I used my Fisher F2 MD, I had no trouble in setting up its settings. I find it very easy, no wonder why the manufacturer claims that its perfect for complete beginners. Anyway, there is still a complete detailed manual included on the package to help you out with the setup.

Cons

There is no con that I can say about Fisher F2 metal detector but the price. Some people find it to be quite pricey, despite, there are other cheaper MDs which offers the same features.

To explain the reason about its high price, the manufacturer actually used high quality durable materials. They wanted to ensure that their product will surely last long enough for their costumers to be completely satisfied. Overall, Fisher F2 metal detector is currently one of the best MD around that I do recommend for both beginners and professionals alike.
